Mayor Bernie Platt announced today that Cherry Hill Township has banned smoking, effective immediately, on all Township-owned land - including the Public Works complex, Town Hall, playgrounds and fields, historical properties and open space.
“Last night at my urging, the Township Council unanimously approved a resolution banning smoking on all Township-owned property. This monumental step will help us to maintain a high quality of life for residents by limiting their exposure to dangerous second-hand smoke,” said Mayor Platt. “Over the past few months I have examined ways to remedy our smoking problem and decided to take a proactive step by banning smoking. There is pending legislation in Trenton addressing a state-wide ban on smoking. Locally, I felt we needed to take the first step.”
Township Council, the Township’s Environmental Advisory Committee, the Township’s Senior Citizen Advisory Board, Township employees and residents have supported the Mayor’s ban on smoking.
“My hope is that this new Township smoking ban will lead to healthier lifestyles, keep Cherry Hill property clean and safe and encourage a healthier community for those that live and work here,” added Mayor Platt.
