Cherry Hill Township Council appoints Brian Bauerle to fill vacant seat

(Cherry Hill, N.J.) – Township resident Brian Bauerle was appointed and sworn in as the newest member of the Cherry Hill Township Council on Thursday night, during a special meeting to fill the seat that became vacant with the passing of longtime Councilman N. John Amato in late September.

Bauerle will serve the remainder of Amato’s unexpired term, which runs through December 2015.

Bauerle, a father of three, is active in Cherry Hill youth sports, volunteering as a coach and serving on the Board of the Cherry Hill Soccer Club, and is a member of the Barclay Farm Swim Club. He and his wife are actively involved in their children’s school and extracurricular activities. Bauerle has served for several years as a member of the Township’s Planning Board, and was named Board Chairman in February 2014.

“I am honored to be appointed tonight, and proud to follow in the footsteps of my friend and mentor,” Bauerle said. “Like Councilman Amato, I believe that a strong community is based on vibrant, thriving neighborhoods and fiscally responsible government. I look forward to serving to the best of my abilities on behalf of the residents of Cherry Hill.”

Bauerle, 39, is the Director of Community Development for The Cooper Foundation at Cooper University Health Care, and brings with him a wealth of experience in community and government relations, community development, public policy, and neighborhood revitalization.

“For as long as I’ve known Brian, he has been committed to making Cherry Hill and the entire South Jersey region a better, stronger place to live and work, be it through his work on the Township’s Planning Board, in his professional capacity, or through his involvement in Cherry Hill youth sports,” Council President David Fleisher said. “As a member of Council, I know that Brian shares in our commitment to efficient, effective and transparent government, and will be a strong advocate for our residents and our neighborhoods.”

Bauerle previously worked as Chief of Staff at the New Jersey Department of Transportation, and as Director of Government Relations for the State’s Department of Community Affairs. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from York College of Pennsylvania.

Bauerle and his wife, Kira, live in the Township’s Knollwood section with their three children, who attend Kilmer Elementary School.

“Brian has a clear respect for the way we work together as Mayor and Council, and a love of public service that I greatly admire,” Mayor Cahn said. “I have no doubt that he will be an asset on Council and I look forward to working with him to continue moving Cherry Hill forward.”
